J.D. Mitchell is a retired registered professional mechanical engineer and has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. He has also completed his Master of Biblical Studies in Biblical Creation Apologetics from Master’s Graduate School of Divinity.
He was employed from 1967 through 2002 in engineering and management positions in heavy industry. From 2002 through 2014 was principal engineer for his own consulting engineering firm Crane & Hoist Engineering, where he designed and analyzed cranes, hoists, crane runway systems and other material handling equipment. J.D. is a Life Member of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
He was Executive Director of the Institute for Creation Science of Oregon 2005 – 2018 and he speaks and writes regarding the creation versus evolution controversy as a part of his creation science ministry, Creation Engineering Concepts. He is also a member of the Design Science Association of Oregon and The Creation Research Society. He has been researching the scientific and biblical evidence regarding the creation vs. evolution controversy since 1984 when he was converted from a theistic evolutionist to a born again* Christian. J.D. founded Creation Engineering Concepts in 2004 and he founded The Institute for Creation Science in 2005. He published The Creation Dialogues in 2010 and Discovering the Animals of Ancient Oregon in 2013. Guidebook to North American Dinosaurs According to Created Kinds was published in early 2014. He published The Creation Dialogues – 2nd Edition also in 2014. In 2017 he published his latest book, Fossils: Description & Interpretation Within a Biblical Worldview.
His creation studies specialties are Creation Engineering and Biblical Paleontology.
He is active in his church and is married with two grown children and one grandchild.
