Rich Fools

But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you.” Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself? (Luke 12:20)

You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds. I will make myself like the Most High.” (Isaiah 14:13-14)

In the parable from Luke, Jesus highlights the futility of the unbridled accumulation of material goods. We cannot take these things with us into the next life and everything belongs to God.

In Isaiah, we see that our tendencies to selfishness are exactly what caused Satan’s downfall. The “I, me, my” attitudes lead down a path to destruction and those who follow that path are fools indeed!
