It is a fact that the majority of scientists who work in the natural sciences (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Paleontology etc.) do seem to accept evolution as a fact and reject biblical creation as having been proven wrong.
However, there are literally thousands of educated scientists who reject the ideas of evolution and millions of years and accept as true the historical concepts of the Bible. Many (perhaps a majority of) applied scientists such as engineers, physicians, dentists, veterinarians etc. accept the concepts of biblical creation.
Truth is not determinied by majority vote, but many lay persons still ask the question which is the subject of this article, “How can all those scientists be wrong?” There are numerous reason for this way of thinking and these reasons can be combined into two basic categories.
CATEGORY ONE: Many who believe in evolution are darkened in their understanding because of ignorance (Ephesians 4:18). Evolution is the foundational paradigm of public education and academia today and the leading authority figures all preach evolution. Since scientists have been taught evolution is true, and they know that other scientists evidently believe in evolution (and are strident in making their views known), they believe also-by faith. This happens even though they may not find any valid evidence for evolution in their field of expertise. Scientific fields have become very specialized, and it is my observation that most scientists believe that the evidence for evolution is found in “some other field.”
One example is regarding the rock record. Many scientists believe that the fossils in the rocks have proved that biological macroevolution has occurred over hundreds of millions of years. They believe this way because that is what they have heard in the halls of academia. But, if they had taken a little time to do some independent scientific research they would have soon found that the fossils lend literally no support for the theory of evolution.
I have found that most practicing engineers are quite open to the biblical creationist argument because of their direct knowledge of the difficulty inherent in the design and manufacture of anything. The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics works against the engineer as he tries to design and make things and then make them last for any appreciable amount of time. Some scientists may assume that because of the technological advances in the applied sciences that somehow the presuppositions of evolutionary philosophy have been verified. This is not at all true. The applied sciences know nothing of organic macroevolution. Since humanistic material “progress” seems to continue in business and technology, some assume evolution is the reason for it. This kind of progress is due to an ongoing accumulation of human knowledge over time and is not due to non-thinking evolution. The real ramifications of evolutionary thought are societal and not scientific and these ramifications are never good.
CATEGORY TWO: The god of this age (Satan) has blinded their minds (2 Corinthians 4:3). Many scientists who reject the Bible and creation do so in large part because they have been indoctrinated to believe that evolution is science and creation is religion. They have been taught that religious and scientific beliefs must be kept separate at all costs, and anything that might have a relationship to the Divine must not be considered in their work.
This way of thinking forces evolutionary fairy tales to be accepted on blind faith. Common sense convinces most people of the impossibility of “everything coming from nothing for no reason,” but that is exactly what is believed by many scientists who reject the Creator God who made the heavens and the earth.
When the apostle Paul was speaking to the Greek philosophers in Athens he was able to experience partial success. In Acts 17:34 we read that, “A few became followers of Paul and believed.” That is also the situation that Biblical Christians face today…only a few of the “Greeks” will believe the truth as a result of our work.
Those many scientists who reject the Creator God are turned over to their unbelief by God (Romans chapter 1). We can thank God for those many scientists who have accepted the Creator Jesus Christ, and we must continue to pray that God would elect the wrong-way scientists in order to institute repentance and cause them to move to the narrow road that leads to everlasting life.
