SCIENCE, SCIENTISM & THEISTIC EVOLUTION

In a number of my previous articles I have demonstrated that science is knowledge, not philosophy. True science is developed by usage of the Scientific Method which requires observation, testing, and data gathering in the physical reality. Typically this is understood as an ongoing process where hypotheses are developed and tested and then refined on the way to the development of a scientific theory. The diagram below illustrates the idea and shows the steps involved in the Scientific Method as an ongoing process.

The Scientific Method cannot be applied to the distant past regarding orgins because there is no biological macroevolution that has been, or can be, observed in nature.  Therefore, testable predictions are impossible to develop and no data can be gathered. The Scientific Method as applied to evolution looks like the diagram below. Evolutionists are developing their “theories” without observations, without testable predictions, and without data. By definition this is not science!

The subject of origins is then a matter of history. Whose history is correct? Are the secularists correct who rely on naturalistic speculations for past events? Or, are the creationists correct who rely on God’s historical record from the Bible?

Today, it is a tragic fact that public school and most college students are taught that natural science is the superior intellectual authority. This is scientism, not science! True science can tell us what is testable, but promoters of scientism pretend to know about the past and the present what they cannot possibly know. This is arrogance in the extreme; and their assumptions about what happened at the beginning of time are completely untestable.

Scientism assumes that natural sciences such as chemistry, physics, astronomy, biology, geology and paleontology provide the only genuine knowledge of reality. Generally in this view Christianity may be acceptable, but only if considered to be inherently subjective and regarded as valuable only for private matters of opinion. In today’s western culture religious conclusions, such as those derived from the historical narrative from the Bible, are designated as signs of bigotry and intolerance if they cannot be confirmed by the current conclusions of scientism.

Scientism is not only rampant in our schools, but it is the mainline view in secular columns and magazines as well as in the big media and the court system. Since it is the required dogma of the secular culture, it directly challenges Christianity’s long standing claim to be a faith that educates in knowledge about truth and reality.

Jesus Christ told his followers that they would be subjected to the same neglect and hate in the world as he was, so this situation should not be a surprise. However, in my opinion, the greatest challenge to Biblical Christianity comes not from the world, but from those who call themselves Christians yet promote theistic evolution to the flock.

Theistic evolution is the philosophy that ascribes evolutionary ideas developed by atheists to the workings of God. Theistic evolution accepts every concept of atheistic evolution and then states, “God did it.” This effectively and logically transfers the Bible to the trash heap. There is no real reason (scientific or theological) for Christians to accept theistic evolution or any of the other ideas of current and past compromisers to the biblical truth. These people are bowing down to man rather than to God!

Christians must reject the pressure to send their children to secular or Christian schools that teach evolution. If they fail in this they can most assuredly expect to see their children joining the vast march of those leaving the faith.

Remember, evolution is not observable, testable, replicable or falsifiable. The amount of faith required to accept evolutionary ideas exceeds that of the Christian faith by many orders of magnitude.
