Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life in which you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:12)
Notice that our eternal life can be taken hold of. That is, it has usefulness in the world as well as in heaven.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1)
Our race has been marked out for us. It is not an optional endeavor.
Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground… Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. (Ephesians 6:13-15)
We are involved in a good fight between good and evil. We struggle with our committment to truth versus the foolishness of men. We are to sustain this effort with perseverance while knowing that we have available the full armor of God. So stand firm!
