This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)

This fact is reiterated in John 8:12 where Jesus says, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Similarly in Revelation 21:23 John writes to us, The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

God's word reveals to us many other things about the creation and how we are expected to live and act within it. The person who regularly studies the Bible will find God's special revelation is consistent with His general revelation (the creation).

Therefore, it should be easy for the believer to understand that it is very important to obey God's directives. Oh, I know we do not always act according to our understanding and this is because of our sinful natures. We do that which we should not do and fail to do what we should do. Even the apostle Paul admitted that he struggled with this.

However, be encouraged that the light of God's grace and mercy will cover the darkness of our sins and shortcomings!
