And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. (Genesis 1:3-4)

“I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I the LORD, do all these things.” (Isaiah 45:7)

From these two verses we learn that God created darkness and light, and then worked to separate the two for our benefit. Here and now, the designed rotation of the earth on its axis gives us a daily respite from the harsh effects of the sun's rays, and the opposite death-causing coldness. We can be most thankful for that. But, there is more!

No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. (Revelation 22:3-5)

Believers can know that, in heaven, God has arranged for us to experience the best possible lighting situation imaginable.
