Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. (Ephesians 5:17)

Jesus Christ did the Father's will by accomplishing His work on the cross once for all our sakes. It is now His will that we accept this work and show in our living that we believe on Him. (See Hebrews 10:8-10.) And this is the overriding main directive given to us from God for our lives.

But, this can be easier said than done. Each day we must discern His will for our specific instances and circumstances. The Holy Spirit is our faithful daily guide, but we do not always obey Him as we should. Thankfully the Bible is a great help with sufficient daily guidance. For example, Paul gives us some very helpful directives in Ephesians 5:18-21, as follows:

1. Do not get drunk on wine.

2. Be filled with the Spirit.

3. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

4. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

5. Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of Jesus.

6. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

These verses are foundational for each Christian if he or she is to be open to the discernment of God's will for each and every day.
