What is faith and how does the Christian apply it to his life?

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. (Hebrews 11:1-2)

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. (Hebrews 11:13)

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)

Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” (Galatians 3:11)

We have the Bible, the creation, and the knowledge of what Christ has done for us. The ancients in the book of Hebrews did not have all those advantages and yet they were commended for their lives. It is easy to think that God should provide us more assurance. But, these verses make it clear that faith is sufficient for the righteous who are to have an unshrinking faith in God.

Whatever our situation here on earth, we are encouraged to go and live by faith!
