I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. I would flee far away and stay in the desert.” (Psalm 55:6-7)

But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD. (Jonah 1:3)

David wanted to be able to “fly away and flee away” from his problems and his enemies. Jonah tried to run away from the responsibility he was given by the LORD that he considered as nothing but a big problem. The solutions of David and Jonah often end up with worse problems than the initial ones. What should they have done? What should we do?

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fail. (Psalm 55:22)

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7)

These verses provide us with a better way to deal with the problems of this life. We should cast them on the Lord; we should not attempt to fly or flee away from them!
