The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness the prisoners. (Isaiah 61:1)
In Luke 4:21, Jesus proclaimed that, Today this scripture [Isaiah 61:1] is fulfilled in your hearing.
That means that the fact of Christ's coming to earth for his purposes was all that was needed. His actions were totally sufficient. He had been anointed. He preached the Good News to the poor. He bound up the brokenhearted. He proclaimed freedom for the captives and He released the prisoners from darkness.
Christ's actions were in large part spiritual, but those who accept Him (repent from sinful ways and then trust and obey) are recipients of all the marvelous things that He has for them. He offers not only spiritual things but material things, and the hold of Satan on each believer is instantly and forever broken and they are brought from darkness to light.
