Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 Peter 1:8-9)

Those people living today who believe in Jesus have not physically seen him. Peter had indeed seen him and was directly encouraging us believers with these words above. Similarly after his resurrection, Jesus said to Thomas, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. (John 20:29)

Believers are greatly blessed because of the “inexpressible and glorious joy” they have received from their faith. So, in God's eyes Thomas was at a blessing disadvantage compared to those of us who have not physically seen Jesus and yet believe. And, we can know that we have the salvation of our souls for all eternity!
