Moses summoned all Israel and said: Hear, O Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and be sure to follow them. (Deuteronomy 5:1)

The primary purpose of God's Word is to educate all of the people of the earth. In many countries large numbers of people are going to school for longer and longer lengths of time. But, what is it that they are being taught? Unfortunately, secularlism is king in all public and many private colleges and universities, and so materialism and naturalism are taught pervasively. These religions are indoctrinating millions with the idea that materialism and naturalism can provide improvements over the precepts of Christianity. These corrupt philosophies are diametrically opposed to the precepts of God's Word and so we see rampant abortion, homosexuality, fornication and numerous other sinful lifestyles and acts gaining widespread acceptability in the culture.

In Jeremiah 10:2 we read, This is what the LORD says: Do not learn the ways of the nations.

Yes, much of what is in the Bible is difficult and must be learned with some effort. For many the greatest difficulty is that the biblical precepts do not match our sinful natures. Nevertheless, it is to the benefit of all that these precepts be learned. The next step after learning God's Word is to obey it, and with obedience will come hope.
