Everyday they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:46-47)

The New Testament church had total committment from its members as testified by these verses. Today's Christian churches, by and large, do not have many with that much committment to Christ.

However, one advantage that today's church has over the New Testament church is that we have God's completed Word. The church at the time of Acts had to rely on the teaching of the apostles since most of the letters that make up the New Testament had yet to be written.

The two times, therefore, are considerably different. Nevertheless, the Lord today is still able to “add to the church daily those who would be saved.” We can be very thankful and joy filled for that fact.
