For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel. (Ezra 7:10)

This is the key verse in the book of Ezra because it tells us that Ezra was prepared for the huge task God had set out for him. Even though his nation of Israel had been exiled to a foreign land, Ezra devoted himself to the Scriptures and to the teaching of them to others. And, due to his being well versed in the Law of Moses, the gracious hand of God was upon him.

Today, Bible believers should want to be prepared for service within the will of God as well as significant up to the maximum allowed by our God-given gifts and abilities. The Bible stresses that the most important component of our education and training for this service is that we gain through a regular daily study of God's Word. If we study and observe God's ways for us we will then be prepared to accomplish what God has planned for each of us.

Be devoted to reading and studying the Bible!
