For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. (Colossians 1:20)

Here we are reminded again that all reconcilation comes from God and through his Son. There is nothing men and women can do of themselves to cause or earn this reconcilation.

Earlier in the book of Colossians we are told that, For by him all things were created: Things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (Verses 16-17)

It is common for Christian expositors to remind us that God is in charge of everything. However, from a scientific viewpoint it is not so common to be reminded that the universe is being held together by the power of Christ. Perhaps that is the reason why secular scientists are so puzzled by how the atom stays together.

It can be difficult to remember these facts when the world is in constant turmoil, but these are the times when we should be most cognizant of the power and authority our Savior holds, and that we can have a personal relationship with him!
