Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” (1 Kings 18:21)
Elijah is strongly speaking against spiritual compromise of the times. And this same sort of compromise has polluted the people of America today. In Revelation 3:14-16 Jesus Christ says, “These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold or hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
Today there are in this nation many Laodicean churches, Christian in name only. I think of the so-called Christian denomination whose logo is “We take the Bible seriously but not literally.” I think of the mainline churches who have by and large abandoned preaching or teaching God's Word. I think of all those churches that are more secular than they are godly. I think of those churches that have perverted the teachings of the faith to the point where they have come to a position of promoting the very sin that the Bible condemns.
As a Creation Science speaker I am constantly reminded that a majority of church-attending Christians are so greatly influenced by the many anti-biblical philosophies that permeate our culture today that they have converted their assemblies into nothing more than social clubs.
It is indeed time for another reformation on the order of the one sparked by Luther where the Church turns back to the authority of God's Word. The world as a whole would greatly benefit from such action and the destruction of America could be averted.
