Evolution requires vast amounts of time to make the impossibility of chemicals forming forming life by themselves seem reasonable. A young earth, however, would have to be the work of a Creator. There are many ways in which our universe witnesses to its young age, thereby bringing glory to God, rather than to random-chance processes.

The space probe Mariner 10 studied the magnetic field of the small planet Mercury in 1974 and 1975. Based on the assumption that the solar system is almost 5 billion years old, scientists assumed that this small planet should long ago have come to equilibrium and lost all of its magnetic field. To their amazement, scientists discovered that Mercury's magnetic field was still active. If Mercury is only about 6,000 years old (which is consistent with the Bible's history of things), it is no mystery why Mercury would still have a measurable magnetic field. No other satisfactory explanation exists.
