Israel's detailed history is foretold in many prophetic Old Testament Bible passages.strong> “In Deuteronomy 28, even before the Israelites had entered the Promised Land, Moses predicted their future season of happiness in the land, their repeated suffering and punishment for disobedience to God's law, and finally their great worldwide dispersion among the Gentile (non-Jewish) nations. This dispersion of the Jewish nation was also foretold by many later prophets and finally by Christ Himself (Luke 21:20-24).” There are also specific details numbering their years in exile and foretelling of the destruction, rebuilding, and second destruction of the Temple.

Jeremiah predicted that the Jews would never lose their identity or be absorbed by other nations (as were the Edomites and Philistines) and that their national identity would be restored. The eventual restoration of Israel as a nation was also prophesied in many other biblical passages. After almost 2,000 years as a nation with no homeland, Israel was miraculously reestablished as a recognized nation in 1948 and even regained its ancient capital of Jerusalem in 1967. The very existence of Israel as a nation and the Jews as a distinct people is perhaps the greatest proof of God's divine intervention and protection.
