But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge. (Daniel 12:4)
Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have wandered far from the faith. (1 Timothy 6:20)
These two verses, one from the Old Testament and one from the New, help explain much regarding the situation we face today.
In the passage from Daniel the tremendous increase in knowledge and technology over the past 100 years was forecast. With the Internet and the proliferation of electronic gagets many today have the idea that they know more than they really do. Automobiles and jet planes allow large numbers of people to go to and fro all over the earth, just as was stated would be the case in Daniel.
In the society as a whole people are indoctrinated by the millions to believe in the atheistic philosophies of evolution and deep time in contradiction to the true knowledge available in the Bible. It is no wonder that so many are wandering far from the Christian faith.
But, the good news is that these verses also provide to the believer God-given signs that the return of Jesus Christ is near!
