Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. (Proverbs 4:23)

No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. (Luke 6:43-45)

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue… (Psalm 15:1-3)

These Scriptures emphasize the importance for each believer to really guard his heart. We are to store up good things in our hearts – not evil things. We must determine those influences in our lives that are good and those that are evil and “store up” and reject accordingly.
