Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him, “this is what the Sovereign LORD says: You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.” (Ezekiel 28:12)

Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. (Ezekiel 28:17)

These verses are likely directed first to the king of Tyre and secondly to Satan. But, they are also instructive to all mere mortals. Some people who have God-given superficial beauty, extreme athletic prowess and other unusual human abilities oftentimes act as if their gifts are the result of their own efforts. They then become proud and arrogant. This behavior is prevalent in famous actors, athletes and other celebrities, but can be a tendency for everyone at times.

We must work to remedy this tendency in ourselves because those who don't can find a resultant eternal ruin. Thank you God for our every blessing!
