He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. (Revelation 20:2)

This verse makes it clear that the devil and the serpent from the Garden of Eden, where our troubles all began, are one and the same. According to Revelation 20:10 Satan's final destiny is to be thrown into the lake of burning sulfur along with the beast and the false prophet where they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

In the meantime we here on earth must continue to resist this great adversary who wants to devour us (1 Peter 5:8), and has schemes designed to outwit us (2 Corinthians 2:11). Jesus warns us of Satan's formidable capabilities and his evil nature in John 8:44 where he tells us, He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Those who do not follow Christ are destined to be influenced by the Adversary and to make many serious wrong choices. Those who do follow Christ and resist Satan are promised God will provide strength and restoration (1 Peter 5:10).
