After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:12)

We Christian believers often want the LORD to work on our behalf in a strong and mighty way. But the Bible says He works as He sees fit and in His timing. We are admonished to wait for Him and that does not always match up to our expectations or desires.

In Isaiah 30:21 we read, Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “this is the way: walk in it.”

However, we do have proactive responsibilities as well. For example, Jesus tells us, Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matthew 7:13-14)

So, I think if we wait on Him in faith God will lead us on the right path using means often barely discernable to us. However, we are most fortunate to have God's Word and the Holy Spirit to assist us to find and stay on that “narrow” path for each and every day of our lives! Let us all pray that it be so.
