The Jews were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having studied?” (John 7:15)

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law. (Matthew 7:28-29)

Jesus on earth was the God-man. He needed to be a man so he could take the penalty for all of the sins of men. He needed to be God so he could know perfectly the Father's will for him and be the blemish-free sacrifice required by the Holy God.

Jesus received his education not according to the conventional method from the Jewish establishment, but from his own study of the Scriptures starting as a child (see Luke 2:46-52) and from his innate knowledge as God incarnate.

It often amazes (or even galls) people when someone gains great knowledge in unconventional ways. This was true in Jesus' day and is still true. Believers of today will be well served to gain much knowledge from what the secular world considers to be “unconventional” (i.e. biblical education).
